Bodybuilding is a workout which involves the use of weights which are helpful in building bigger and stronger muscles. To gain muscle mass you can chose machines or give the preference to the basic tools: dumbbells and barbells. But which of these two tools is more beneficial. In most cases the same exercise can be performed using dumbbels or barbells but the major difference is that with barbells each arm will support the weight completely and is indepenent of each other. When using a barbell, if more effort is put on one arm your exercise won't be more effectively. Both arms should be involved. The biggest advantage of training with dumbbell is that it gives you a greater range of motion. For example, if you are doing bench press with two dumbbells each of them can be lowered on each side of your body much further. Due to this you can stretch your chest muscles called pectorals. In case of a barbell it is impossible to lower it once the bar reaches your chest.
Another exercise where you can benefit from using dumbbells is bicep curls. If you use two dumbbells a full weight can be used for each arm. If a barbell is used one arm can do more of work which is necessary to raise the barbell. Very often this arm is stronger. Other exercises which should be performed with dumbbells are dumbbell press and dumbbell lateral raises. Dumbbell is beneficial for training your shoulders and it allows you to focus on each shoulder independently. Dumbbell lateral raises train the middle shoulder muscle and using barbell in this case can give you no results. So, sometimes you are limited if you use barbell. Almost any exercise can be performed with dumbbells. Dumbbells give you the opportunity to perform a full body workout and you can isolate the muscles more. You can involve dumbells into such powerful compound exercises as squats, bent over rows and deadlifts. So does it mean that you should only use dumbbells in your workout? It is not necessary so. In fact, both these tools should be used. Barbells allow you to support the weights completely with both arms and in most cases they are more convenient for squats and deadlifts. Try to incorporate both barbells and dumbells into your training.
Example: do dumbbell bicep curl and barbell bicep curl while working your bicep mucles. This will also give you the chance to do different exercises which can make your workout routine more varied. Regarless of what you use dumbbells or barbell while weight lifting it is important to concentrate on what you are doing to work your muscles effectively. You should do your best to feel the burn and build huge muscle mass.
